ECLEPs Replication Manual

ECLEPs (Enriched Clinical Learning Environments through Partnerships) is an initiative to develop enriched clinical learning experiences for students in long-term care (LTC) settings. Long-term care takes place in a multiple settings, including nursing homes, home, and community-based care facilities such as assisted living and residential care. To date, settings used in ECLEPs have included nursing homes, assisted living, and residential care facilities. The primary aims of ECLEPs are to foster clinical-academic partnerships that

  • promote faculty development in gerontological nursing,

  • recognize and use the expertise of LTC nurses and support these nurses through multiple resources and staff development,

  • provide student nurses an opportunity to experience excellent long-term care nursing and understand the nurse's role in long-term management of chronic illness.

ECLEPs was developed by the Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing and multiple partners through a pilot grant funded by the Northwest Health Foundation. The ECLEPs model is being replicated in several communities in Southern Oregon through a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration. More information about these ECLEPs projects and partners can be found at www.ecleps.org.

The Resource Toolbox is presented in four parts: Guide for Selecting Partner Agencies; Guide for Faculty, Guide for LTC nurses called "Clinical Education Liaisons (CELs)," and a section describing the training program for faculty and CELs. An ECLEPs Tool Box of resources related to nursing care of older adults and instructional materials for use with students is also posted.
